What do you do with all your extra fruit and veggies from the garden?

I've been managing an allotment for some time, and every year I find myself overwhelmed with produce, especially rhubarb, broad beans, tomatoes, and courgettes. I typically share with neighbors or freeze what I can, but there's still a lot left over that goes to waste. How do you all deal with surplus fruit and vegetables? Has anyone else struggled to find ways to use or distribute them?

If you're consistently finding yourself with too much, consider planting crops that keep well or can be preserved. For instance, onions and garlic store well, and you can make chutneys with tomatoes or even dry herbs. You can also explore making wine from surplus, like parsnip wine—definitely a unique choice!

I struggle with the preserving process too; it often feels overwhelming! Do you have any tips to make it less of a chore?

I only grow stuff I really want to eat a lot of, and anything that gets out of hand usually turns into roasted veggie sauces that I freeze for later meals. Keeps the fridge less cluttered!

I hear you! Sometimes it feels like I need an extra freezer just to store all that! How long does it take you to whip up those sauces?

I usually donate my extra produce to the local food bank! They’re always grateful for fresh veggies. You might want to check if it’s okay to give away homegrown stuff. Most places are happy to get fresh goods!

That's such a nice idea! I'm curious too about donating homegrown. Can anyone share if there are any rules?
