I've got a solid background in electronics, primarily in industrial controls. I used to build systems from scratch, focusing on embedded PCBs which I'm quite passionate about. Though I've transitioned to a different career and no longer work directly in that field, I'm keen to dive into exploring embedded systems further. I'm familiar with amplifiers, ICs, sensors, and microcontrollers, but I'm grappling with writer's block. I'm curious—if you're into electronics as a hobby, what kind of projects or activities do you engage in?

What do I build? Well, for fun, I created a Simon Says game for my dogs that rewards them with treats when they succeed! It's been a great way to learn about discrete components. Since I’m also a software developer, I find microcontrollers pretty easy, but I focus on grasping the fundamental electronics theory as much as I can. I typically dive into these projects during winter, since summer is all about golf for me!
My journey with electronics has been quite a ride! It's been decades since I started, originally building kits, then experimenting with random circuits, moving on to embedded systems, and even high voltage and RF work. Now I'm into vacuum tubes and I collect CRTs! I love everything about electronics, even if I’m picky about projects. If something doesn’t catch my interest, I won't bother. I also find it relaxing to salvage components, that’s something I’ve always enjoyed on the side, even when I get stuck on new project ideas!
Honestly, a big part of my hobby involves trying to keep my workstation from becoming a disaster zone! I’ve got a pile of components in my AliExpress cart I'm convinced I'll use someday. A lot of my time is spent trying not to step on metal shards, which I inevitably end up doing anyway. The remaining time is split between brainstorming random projects and actually building them. Oh, and I should mention I have ADHD, so I kinda hop from one hobby to another each week, which actually ties back into electronics in unexpected ways—like cramming LLMs into plush toys!

I get that! I also dabble in a bunch of stuff—though electronics doesn't always blend with my other interests. But hey, we manage. ADHD definitely adds a twist to how we explore our hobbies!
