My husband recently pulled out his old UV flashlight and we found a big glowing spot on our kitchen ceiling. It looks like there was water damage at some point, as the popcorn ceiling in that area is a bit puffed up. Everything feels dry and hard now, with no color changes, but I'm still curious about this glowing spot. Why is it glowing? Is it safe now, or could there be mold hidden underneath the paint? We've been living here for four years, and the roof was replaced around 5 or 6 years ago.

UV light can highlight a lot of things, so it doesn't automatically mean there's mold. Mold typically shows up as dark spots under UV, while other substances, like bodily fluids or old repairs, can glow too. It's worth taking a closer look but don't jump to conclusions just yet!
If you're really concerned, I suggest getting a professional to take a look. My company specializes in these evaluations, and I can help check for any hidden issues. Just be careful with that popcorn ceiling – it might contain asbestos, so don’t cut into it unless you're sure!
Check your attic for any potential animal nests. Sometimes animal urine can cause glowing spots, so it's a good idea to inspect that area too. If it's just a repair job, you probably don't have to worry too much. Just keep an eye on it!
Yeah, I've heard that can definitely make things glow!
Yikes, I'll have to check that out!

That's a relief to hear! I was getting worried it might be mold.
