What Essentials Should I Buy as a New Homeowner?

I'm about to become a homeowner and I'm a bit overwhelmed with what to get first. I already have some solid tools from living in an apartment, but there are probably a lot of things I'm not considering. What do you all recommend I should prioritize buying for my new home?

First things first, change the locks as soon as you move in, especially if it's a former rental. After that, get yourself a fire extinguisher and some smoke alarms—insurance might even require those. Also, having a hand truck can be a lifesaver for moving furniture around, trust me on that one! And don't forget a voltage tester for safe electrical work when you're changing out light fixtures.

Congrats on the new place! I'd suggest starting with the basics: toolbox essentials like a hammer, screwdrivers, and a good drill. If you have a yard, you'll need lawn tools like a mower and rake. Remember, it's better to buy tools as you need them; you’ll be surprised at how often you'll end up back at the hardware store once you move in!

Definitely invest in a Shop Vac for those unexpected messes. It'll save you in a pinch! Also, I recommend the DeWalt cordless tool combo; it’s got everything you need for home projects. A ladder is essential too—my friend had to learn that the hard way when he couldn't change a bulb without one.
