I've got a bit of a question about the term "late summer" as it relates to gardening. I know when summer takes place on the calendar, but what does it mean in horticultural terms? I mean, it can still be quite hot even into September and sometimes even the beginning of October. So when gardening guides mention doing something with plants in late summer, does that really include those months, or is it more about a certain time frame in late August through early September?
