Hey everyone! I'm planning a third date with this amazing woman and I'd love to bring her some flowers. However, she has two cats, so I want to make sure I choose something that's non-toxic for them. I know she already has sunflowers at home, so I'd like to go for something else. I've done a bit of searching online but I'm getting mixed messages about what's safe. I've seen conflicting info on roses and baby's breath being toxic or not, and I really want to avoid any harm. Ideally, I need to pick up something from a store after work. Any recommendations?

That's super thoughtful of you! You might want to check out the ASPCA website for a comprehensive list of non-toxic plants for cats. Some safe flowers include lavender, strawflowers, and forget-me-nots. Just a heads up: while lavender isn't highly toxic, it can upset a cat's stomach if eaten, but most cats tend to avoid it. Strawflowers are great because they look amazing when dried, and they don’t lose their color. Good luck on your date!
For sure, roses are a classic go-to! But flowers can be tempting for cats anyway, so it might be a good idea to get her some pet-safe grass to distract the kitties. They sell these little pots of grass that cats love, and it could earn you points with both her and her cats. Catnip is fun but can make some cats a bit too hyper!
I found a great resource over at PetMD that lists safe plants for cats. I can confirm that roses and orchids are safe for cats. Just remember that even non-toxic flowers can cause some stomach upset if a cat eats a lot of them, but roses usually have thorns to keep them away. They're classic, beautiful, and you can't go wrong with them!
