I'm planning to replace some grass along my long cement walkway with flowers, but the area only gets morning sun due to tall trees filtering the light. I'm concerned because it turns to moss in the winter, so I'm wondering what types of flowers or plants would thrive in these low light conditions. I initially thought about Zinnias, but I learned they need full sun. I also considered lavender, but I'm not keen on the maintenance that might involve. Any suggestions?

Are you leaning towards annuals or perennials? Knowing your hardiness zone (Zone 8) is also important! If you want perennials, Hellebores, Hostas, and Coral Bells are great options. For annuals, try Impatiens or Begonias. They do well in shady spots!
Hydrangeas could work well for your shaded walkway! They can thrive in partial shade and are pretty low maintenance. Just keep them well-watered and you'll have some lovely blooms!
We already have a few Hydrangeas, so that sounds promising!
Since you have really limited sunlight, I'd recommend Coleus and Astilbe for perennials. They can really brighten up shady areas. Just a heads up, they usually only bloom once a year. If it's shady enough for moss, consider it full shade when picking your plants!
I totally agree with the Coleus suggestion! A mix of those can be stunning, especially with their colors!
Thanks! I'll definitely check these out. I think they'll work well since I'm in zone 8a.

I'm open to both but prefer perennials. Thanks for the tips!
