Hi everyone! I'm not very experienced with gardening, but I'm looking to get my mom some flowers to plant for Mother's Day (May 11th). I realize that it might be a bit late in the season for planting, but I'm wondering if there are still some viable options out there. I was thinking about dahlias, hydrangeas, or lilies. We live in a pretty dry area with hot summers (around 90°F), and we don't usually get rain until October, so I'm not sure how well these flowers would do. My mom has a tub of hydrangeas from Costco and some other plants, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to add more. Any advice would be really appreciated!

It's definitely doable to plant flowers at this time! The key is to make sure you're watering them enough, especially since it’s getting hot. If you’re diligent with watering, you should be fine!
You can absolutely plant this time of year! Just keep in mind that you’ll need to water daily while they establish themselves. Since you mentioned heat, I’d recommend considering heat-tolerant options like lantana, coneflower, or salvia. They’ve worked well for me!
Not unviable at all! People plant throughout the season. Just focus on watering. For a Mother’s Day gift, you might also consider orchids (indoors) or some pretty petunias and azaleas that can handle the outdoors!

And don't forget about hibiscus! They're lovely and can handle the heat!
