What Foam Should I Use for a Homemade Couch?

I'm thinking about building my own couch since the comfortable ones in stores are way too pricey for me. I want to use affordable wood, foam, and fabric, but I'm not sure what types of foam would be comfy and durable over time. Can anyone share advice on the best types of foam that won't flatten out too quickly?

Closed cell foam is a great choice if you want something that keeps its shape. You might also want to layer different kinds of foam to hit that sweet spot between comfort and durability. Just remember, fabric layers can help protect the foam, and avoiding excessive heat and light will improve its lifespan. Taking care of both the foam and the fabric will go a long way in keeping your couch comfy for years!

You'll want to get some high-density upholstery foam for your couch. I used to make cushions, and trust me, the denser the foam, the better it'll hold up. It might be a bit of an investment, but it’ll save you from dealing with flattened cushions later. Don’t forget to wrap the foam in batting and cover it with a good fabric to make it even sturdier! If you’re feeling iffy about the whole project, checking out local second-hand shops could save you some hassle – you might find a decent used couch that could just use a slipcover!

Good point on checking second-hand stores! Sometimes you can find great deals without the hassle of DIYing everything from scratch.
