What Ingredients Should I Use for a DIY Soil Mix for Indoor Plants?

I've been using store-bought potting soil for my indoor plants, but I'm interested in creating my own mix to improve drainage and nutrients. Can anyone share their go-to recipes or specific ingredients for different types of plants?

Don’t forget about specialized mixes! There's a popular ABG mix from the Atlanta Botanical Garden that a lot of people swear by for picky plants. Just something to consider if you're looking to get more specific with your plants' needs.

I’ve had great success with a mix that’s 50% coco coir, 30% vermicompost, 10% perlite, 5% vermiculite, 3% sand, and just a touch of bone meal and Epsom salt. Add 1% of NPK 10-10-10 fertilizer, and you’re set!

For general indoor plants, a good mix is 50% potting soil, 30% perlite, and 20% compost or coconut coir. This blend helps with drainage and provides decent nutrients. If you have succulents or cacti, try 40% sand, 40% potting soil, and 20% perlite.
