What is tinned copper wire and where can I find it in Europe?

I'm trying to understand what type of wire I've seen people using as an alternative to normal insulated wires. It looks like a thin, solid copper wire without insulation, similar to what you get from cutting off the excess from a resistor. What is this wire called, and where can I purchase it in Europe?

Definitely ask around local electronic shops; most should have something similar to what you need!

That wire you're talking about is likely tinned copper wire. You can typically find it in various sizes, usually sold in rolls of about 100 meters. There's also enameled wire, which has a thin insulating layer and is mostly used for making custom components like transformers and inductors.

Thanks for clarifying that! I'll definitely check it out.

You guys use that for custom stuff? I always heard it referred to as botch wire...

Yeah, that's just called wire, and you can get it pretty easily in Europe. If you have a piece with you, try visiting a local repair shop; they might give you a short piece to work with.
