I'm in a bit of a pickle and need to replace a large retaining wall this spring because it's rotting and on the verge of collapsing. The wall is pretty extensive, about 7 feet tall at its highest point, but I'm not exactly sure of its total length. I'm trying to reach out and get bids for the replacement so I can secure funding for the project. The hiccup is that I don't really know who to contact for this kind of work.
I reached out to a local landscaping company for a quote, but they said they can't handle such a large wall and suggested I should hire an 'engineer.' Now I'm left wondering what type of engineer that actually means. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! You should definitely reach out to a good local landscaper. They’re usually familiar with local codes and regulations for such projects. Also, for the future, you might want to go with a block wall rather than wood since it lasts longer!
Just keep in mind that any wall over 7 feet might need a display of plans from an engineer to meet local codes. The landscaping company can do the work but might not take care of the design needs.
