I picked up this starter plant at a church sale, and it was labeled simply as "squash." I've tried using Google Lens, which suggested it might be pumpkin squash, but I'm not convinced. The squash is around 20 inches long and weighs about 12 pounds, roughly the same as my dog. Any guesses on what this could really be?

Looks like you might have a Bottle Gourd based on some reverse image searching I did. It's worth checking out!
I think it resembles an Indian Calabash, which belongs to the gourd family. Just a heads-up, though: many gourds can be toxic due to cucurbitacins, so if you try tasting it and it seems bitter, don't eat it!
Thanks for the warning! I definitely don’t want any surprises.
Looks like you're growing a Bengali squash! That seems like a solid guess, especially after checking Google Images!

That could definitely be it! Bottle Gourds are known for their long shape.
