I'm looking to plant something along my long driveway border, which is about 2 feet wide and gets partial shade. I'm tired of constantly refreshing it with a mix of annuals and want a low-maintenance solution that blooms from spring to fall. While I thought about using tulips and asters, I'm unsure if they would complement each other and unfortunately, I can't have lilies because I've been dealing with lily beetles and I'm not keen on using sprays. Just as a note, I'm in Zone 5.

Tulips are gorgeous, but they only bloom for a couple of weeks in spring, so they might not be what you're after. If your border gets morning sun and afternoon shade, consider planting hydrangeas— they thrive in those conditions! Marigolds also work well in partial shade and can self-replant from seeds, giving you blooms from summer to fall. For a more natural look, try a wildflower mix native to your area, which will attract lovely pollinators! ??
It would be helpful to know your location, especially your hardiness zone, since that can greatly affect your planting choices. If you're in the US, sharing your zone would help others give better suggestions!
That makes sense. I'm in Zone 5!

I'm okay with having some plants die back as others start blooming. Are there smaller hydrangea varieties that wouldn't grow so tall? Mine is already hitting 7 feet!
