What Order Should I Tackle Roof Replacement, Pest Removal, and Insulation?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma as we need to replace our roof, remove some pesky rats, and update our insulation. What's the best order to get this done? Should I prioritize pest removal first, followed by the roof, and then the insulation? Or would it be smarter to do the insulation while the roof work is happening? Given that our roof has a low pitch, the attic is more like a short crawl space. Additionally, when a new roof is installed, do they typically strip everything down so the attic is exposed, or do they just replace the shingles? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You definitely want to handle the rats before anything else. Otherwise, it could be tough keeping workers around. After the exterminator does their thing, let everything air out to avoid any health issues, then move on to the roof and finish with insulation.

First things first—block any entrances where the rats are getting in, then get rid of them. For the roof and insulation, they often require different contractors, and while the roof is costly, it’s also more crucial than the insulation. Just make sure the insulation doesn’t block your soffits if you plan to blow in insulation for better R-value.

It's a good idea to deal with the rats right away since they can cause ongoing problems. I’d suggest getting them out first—your quality of life depends on it! The roof can usually wait unless it's about to collapse. Once the pests are dealt with, focus on the roof next, and then tackle insulation afterwards.
