Hey everyone! I'm moving into a brand new house soon, and my dad, who's been a hobbyist woodworker for ages, wants to build me some outdoor furniture as a housewarming gift. I'm thinking something like a coffee table or Adirondack chairs since he's made those before. I'm looking for advice on what type of wood he should use and how to protect it from moisture so that it lasts. Any tips or guidelines would be super helpful! Thanks a lot!

If your dad's been woodworking for a long time, he probably has a good idea of what woods work well outdoors. It really depends on your location though. For instance, in the west, cedar and redwood are popular choices, while cypress is great in the south. Just a heads-up though – avoid using pine or fir for outdoor projects.

I’m in the northeast if that helps!
