I recently had a room renovated where the contractor smoothed out the popcorn ceiling and super textured walls using layers of Westpac Quickset Compound. Now that there's a lot of compound on the surfaces, I'm looking for recommendations on the best primer that can help prevent cracking in the future. Any specific products or tips that would work well in this situation?

Honestly, using hot mud for that was probably not the best choice. It's really meant for certain specific jobs and can lead to issues like cracking. No primer can truly prevent cracks if there's movement involved anyway, but if the compound wasn't dried properly, that could cause problems too.
I swear by Gardz for these kinds of projects! I used it after skim coating my plaster apartment, and I've had zero issues with cracks. It might be worth considering for your situation!
Cracking is mostly caused by movement, so no primer is going to fix that. But if you think the cracking was from improper drying, you might want to look into the drying process used. If things were applied too fast, it can lead to problems. Some have recommended PVA-based primer, but remember that the texture could still peel with moisture exposure.
