What Should I Ask When Getting New Windows Installed?

I'm looking to replace the windows in my house, not just do a simple replacement. We have plastic siding, and I'm trying to figure out what questions I should ask the installers to ensure everything goes smoothly. My husband doesn't seem to have any input—he usually says he doesn't know what to ask, which previously led to issues when we got a new furnace installed. I'm expecting we'll need to put new trim up after the installation since our current trim is pretty old. I have someone coming tomorrow to give me a quote, and another one next week, so any advice would be super helpful!

Definitely check out some reputable brands like Sunrise, Okna, or Soft Lite. Also, don’t hesitate to call the manufacturers and ask for their top installers in your area—this can really help you get good estimates!

Thanks for the tip! I didn’t realize I could do that.

It's important to figure out what type of windows you want, like vinyl or aluminum clad. Vinyl is usually cheaper, but if you're looking for aesthetics, aluminum clad might be the way to go. Also, think about window types—casement, single hung, or double hung. Make sure to discuss all these factors with your contractor, as prices can vary significantly based on choices.

I have Edison vinyl windows in my basement, and they turned out nice! My main concern would be ensuring there's good water and air sealing. Sometimes, I feel like I’m treated differently when I’m making these decisions, so I want to be prepared with the right questions to ask.
