I'm really eager to get into woodworking with the goal of creating something that my family can pass down for generations. While I don't have much experience yet and I'm struggling a bit with what to make, I want to hear your thoughts on what would be good projects for this purpose. Also, I'd love to know why you all got into woodworking in the first place!

One of my first projects was a nice little box for my wife to store her small items—it's still in use today! My first big project was a desk for my son, which I hope becomes a family piece too. Just a heads up: don't be discouraged if your first few tries don't turn out as expected; keep at it! I started woodworking after getting sober, and it's been a transformative journey for me. It requires focus and gives a huge sense of achievement, even with all the frustrations along the way.

Great thoughts! I'm definitely considering starting with boxes. And congrats on your sobriety—such an inspiring story!
