What should I charge for bamboo removal work?

Hey fellow landscapers! I'm gearing up to take on a bamboo removal job and need your advice on pricing. I've been asked to quote a client, and while the situation isn't too outrageous, there are some challenges. The bamboo is growing between the neighbor's tall wooden fence and my client's shorter chain link fence, with most of it actually on the neighbor's side. My plan involves digging up the roots from the plants in my client's yard, cutting down the stalks that are stuck between the fences, and applying herbicide to what's left. I've warned the client about the need for repeated applications and that we might not eradicate it all since it's also in the neighbor's yard. I'm stumped on how to price this! The last company I worked for charged $50 an hour for labor, but I was thinking about starting at $30-$35 an hour, plus the herbicide costs. What do you think? Am I in the right ballpark?

Bamboo is a real pain! I just tackled a similar job and it was a nightmare. No matter what rate you settle on, I’d suggest adding at least 25% to your final quote. You’ll be glad you did when those pesky roots just keep coming back!

Totally with you on that! Dealing with bamboo is no joke. It's smart to build that extra cushion into your rates.

Stick with what you know; if the last place charged $50 an hour, don’t shortchange yourself! Factor in a full workday, lunch included, and your total quote should encompass all your time, plus materials. They’ll value your expertise!

In my area, places charge thousands for bamboo removal, so definitely don't undervalue your work. Research the best herbicides for this situation because sometimes injections are effective, especially for cut stems. This is prime herbicide season; figure out a fair rate to include for follow-up visits. And remember, you’re worth $50 an hour!
