What Should I Consider Before Buying a Greenhouse Kit?

I'm a stay-at-home mom living in zone 6a and I started gardening as a way to help with my postpartum depression. With rising costs, I'm looking to grow more of my own food at home. My fiancé generously offered to get me a greenhouse kit, and we have the space for it. This year, I plan to fill the greenhouse with flowers for my wedding in the fall, aiming to dry them for centerpieces and bouquets. After the wedding, I want to move my pepper and tomato plants inside for the winter and start seedlings for the next growing season. I've been gardening on a small scale for two years but I'm wondering if I'm biting off more than I can chew with a greenhouse. What should I know about greenhouse kits under $1000? Are there any common mistakes I should avoid? Also, will a budget greenhouse allow me to grow year-round, or would I be better off with a small one just for starting seedlings?

One essential tip is to definitely invest in an automatic window opener. It makes a huge difference when it gets warm inside the greenhouse!

I didn’t realize they even had automatic ones, that sounds cool! I’m just beginning my research on this, and it feels a bit overwhelming with all the info out there. I might hold off until next year to learn more.

Keep in mind your overall climate, not just the USDA frost zone. It’ll impact how much winter light you get. For budget-friendly winter growing, there are also hydroponics options that work really well for growing fresh greens!

I’m in the Midwest too, where winters are chilly and summers are hot. Hydroponics sounds great, but with cats and a toddler, I'm worried about space and them getting into things. That’s why I’m leaning toward the greenhouse!
