Hey folks! I'm looking to buy a smaller lathe but I want to make sure I choose wisely this time. Last time I went for a cheap Craftsman tool from Lowe's, and it didn't hold up well. I'm aiming for something reliable, preferably around $500, but I can stretch it to $700 if it's worth it. What brands or models would you recommend? Also, is it better to buy new or should I check out used ones on marketplaces? Thanks for the help!

I use a Rikon 70-105 as my everyday lathe. It’s mainly a pen lathe but has a 10" swing, which is perfect for various projects. I added a bed extension for spindles and legs. It's simple, heavy-duty, and gets the job done without any frills, which I really like. Building a sturdy stand from scrap wood made a huge difference too! Definitely check it out!

I appreciate the comment! I’ll definitely look into the Rikon, thanks!
