What Should I Consider When Selling Plants Online?

Hey everyone! I've just opened a small Etsy shop where I sell houseplants, and I'm eager to enhance the buying experience for my customers. Whether you buy plants online often or just from time to time, I'd love your insights! What elements make you feel secure about purchasing from a seller? Are there particular details you always want to see—like clear photos, shipping policies, plant dimensions, or care instructions? Also, what are some things that could put you off from a listing? Any advice is greatly appreciated as I strive to make my shop reflect my passion for plants! If you're curious, here's my shop: midwestplantobsessed.etsy.com. Thanks a lot!

I really appreciate it when sellers provide clear details and care tips about their plants. I used to get frustrated toggling back and forth between Google and a shop just to find basic info like light requirements and mature size. I'd much prefer a detailed description that explains how to care for the plant rather than vague phrases about its color. I usually stick to sellers who specialize in certain plant types because I think they offer better quality plants. Plus, I prefer shops that sell extra supplies and have consistent communication. Just makes the whole experience feel more trustworthy!

For me, the most important thing is the ratio of sales to reviews. If a shop has tons of sales but very few reviews, that's usually a red flag. Also, it's super helpful if the photos of the plants are labeled clearly, so you know exactly what you're getting. Being in the northern US, I also look for shipping info—especially during colder months, understanding how plants are packaged and sent is a must. Personally, I've been leaning more towards other sites lately, but Etsy still has a lot of options!
