What Should I Do About a Root in My Runoff Pipe?

I've got a situation where the runoff from my driveway leads through my neighbor's yard, and I recently discovered that a root from their side has grown into the pipe. The original setup was done before my neighbor built their house, and now that my lot is divided into A and B, I'm wondering how to handle this. Would hiring a contractor to cut out the root and re-line the pipe be a sensible option? Also, I'd like to add a trench drain in front of my garage, which complicates things a bit as that would involve significant changes to my driveway.

If the pipe is located on your neighbor's property, it's really up to them whether they let you repair it there or not. You might want to chat with them to see how they feel about it. It’s tricky since you both share this weird lot situation, but getting their input first would be a good start!

Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from! Since it's all part of the same lot history, figuring out the legal stuff could be a bit of a maze. You might also want to check if there are any local regulations that could affect your plans.
