Hey everyone! I found a toad in one of my soil bags in the greenhouse. I knew it was wintering in my greenhouse but decided to leave it since it was cold. Now that temperatures are warming up above 25°C, I'm worried it might get too hot in that black plastic bag. Should I let it roam free outside, or is there a better way to handle this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you still need the soil bag, you could make a little area in your greenhouse with some soil for the toad to hang out in. Just remember not to touch it with bare hands since their skin is really delicate. If you're fine with leaving it in there, just let it be—it likely likes the humidity and can move if it gets too warm. Maybe crack the greenhouse door a bit to give it an easy way out when it wants! Also, leave some water nearby if possible.
Sounds like that toad was just hibernating during winter! Now that it’s spring, it’s probably looking for a pond to mate. It’s best to let it go so it can find its way. Just open the bag and let it hop out into the garden, it’ll appreciate the freedom!
Does the toad have a way to escape? They’re pretty active now, especially on mild nights, since they’re looking for breeding spots. If you have any ponds nearby—like in a neighbor's garden—that would be ideal. If your garden is wildlife-friendly, you could gently move the toad there and give it some options to hide under the plants. Also, check if there’s a local Toad Patrol or similar group for advice—they often help with amphibian concerns!
Unfortunately, no pond in my garden. There might be one in the garden behind our house, though!

The greenhouse door is about 2 inches off the ground, and I've been leaving it open during the day. After losing a toad last year, I really want to make sure this one is safe. And I won't touch it!
