What Should I Do About My Fence Gate After Concrete Work?

I recently had some major work done on my new home, including installing a vinyl fence and replacing old concrete on my property. Both contractors were supposed to coordinate their work to avoid any issues. The fence was installed first and turned out great, but when the concrete crew came in, they removed the gate to pour the new concrete. Now that the concrete work is done, the fence guy says the gate needs to be reattached, but they have two options for fixing it: replacing the posts (which I'm worried will damage the concrete) or caulking the holes from the old screws, leaving some visible imperfections. What's the best way to handle this situation?

You should definitely talk to the concrete guy again about what he promised regarding coordination. It's frustrating to hear that the setup didn’t work out as planned. If they’re not taking responsibility or offering a solution, maybe just go with caulking for now to avoid the hassle of replacing posts. It may not be perfect, but it could save you from more issues down the line.

Honestly, it seems like a minor issue considering the scale of the projects you had done. If everything else turned out well, caulking might be just fine. At the end of the day, the fence is working for your safety, which is the most important thing!

Replacing the posts seems like a safer long-term solution if you're worried about the aesthetics, but having caulked holes on a new fence could look bad. It sounds like the gate is too low due to the concrete being done correctly. Maybe give them a chance to fix it with the caulk first, and if it looks terrible, you can revisit the post replacement later.
