What Should I Do About My Sealing Issues on a Concrete Driveway?

I just bought a house and initially thought the driveway was asphalt, but after the inspection, I found out it's actually a concrete driveway that's been coated with asphalt sealer. Unfortunately, the sealer is flaking in several spots, revealing the concrete underneath. I'm aware this isn't great for the concrete, and I'm considering my options. Should I try to remove the sealer and fix the concrete underneath, or just keep reapplying the sealer until I can save up for a complete driveway replacement? Thanks in advance for your advice!

It sounds like the sealer is pretty thin—like paint—so you might be able to see the real condition of the concrete pretty easily unless they patched things up. Sealer doesn't last forever, maybe a few years at best. You could either leave it as is, or even power wash it off to see what you're dealing with underneath.

Before making a decision, check what kind of coating is on the driveway. Is it just the sealer that's flaking, or is it actual asphalt coming off? If it’s just the sealer coming off, you might be better off removing it to prevent moisture issues from damaging the concrete further.
