I had a roofer promise to install a stabilizing beam on my porch for just the cost of materials, without charging labor. Fast forward two months after the roof was put on, and he had some guys from his crew come by to finish the trim on that beam. Unfortunately, the trim looks pretty amateur – crooked lines and gaps that need a lot of caulk to fill. I hadn't made the final payment for the trim and gutters yet, and I'm not sure how to approach the project manager about this work. Should I confront him about the quality and how should I handle the payment?

Honestly, just be straightforward with him. Tell him the trim looks bad and needs to be redone. You might end up having to pay a little for it, but it’ll likely still be cheaper than a full redo from the start.
I’d say tell him you’re willing to pay him to fix the trim. That way, you get it done right without causing too much friction.
You really can't complain too much about something that was free. It might suck, but now you may have to pay someone else to fix it up. Just part of the deal.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll bring it up with him soon.
