What should I do after my boyfriend overwatered our new Crepe Myrtle tree?

I planted a Crepe Myrtle in July, and after recovering from heat stress, it started to bloom again. Unfortunately, my boyfriend left the water on for about three days and it might have received over 1,000 gallons of water. I'm really worried about root rot. Is there anything I can do to save it, or is it too late? We've got mulch and a moat around it since we live in Arizona. Also, my boyfriend doesn't seem too concerned since it's under warranty. I wish I could check the soil moisture, but I'm not able to be out in the heat much due to a fainting disorder.

Honestly, it’s probably just like a heavy rainstorm for the tree. It’ll likely appreciate the extra water now that it’s in its new home!

Don't stress too much! If the soil drains well, you shouldn't be too concerned about root rot. Just give it a week, and have your boyfriend check the moisture around the edge of the root ball. If the soil holds together when squeezed, it’s still damp enough. If not, a quick 10-15 minute watering should do. Crepe Myrtles are pretty tough, so your chances of saving it are better than you think!

Thanks for the reassurance! I really want to make sure it’s okay.

A lot of that water probably soaked up the surrounding area, so there's a chance the tree didn't take all of it. Might just be muddy mess around, but the tree could be okay.

Yeah, our yard's just dirt, so it's all a muddy nightmare! ?
