What Should I Do if My Range Hood Fan and Light Aren’t Working?

Hey folks! My range hood fan and light have suddenly stopped working, and I'm trying to figure out who I should call to get this sorted out. Is it better to reach out to a general contractor, an appliance repair person, or maybe even someone on TaskRabbit? I'm thinking it might be an electrical issue since both are out at the same time. Should I be calling an electrician instead? Any advice would be super helpful!

If your range hood is newer, it likely has an electrical issue. Definitely check the circuit breaker first, or see if a GFCI outlet nearby is tripped. But if it’s an older model, it might just be time to replace the appliance. Either way, starting with the electrical side of things is your best bet!

First thing to do is to check your electrical panel. Sometimes a circuit breaker just needs to be flipped back on. Since both the fan and the light are out simultaneously, it does seem like there could be an electrical issue. I’d recommend starting with an appliance repair person, but it might lead you to an electrician if that's the case!

Yeah, checking the breaker box is essential! If it's tripped, you can save on the service call if that’s all it is.
