I recently had a new roof installed by a roofing company, and although I didn't have drip edge before (which wasn't required in my area when I got the roof in 2017), it is now mandated by code. They delivered materials that included the drip edge, but when I got home, I saw that they didn't install it. The company claims that because I didn't have it previously, they would need to replace the fascia to install it correctly without risking damage. That explanation doesn't sit well with me. What are my options here?

They can install the drip edge now without damaging anything. It's a hassle for them, but it’s doable. Just make sure they understand it’s part of the job, and they need to handle it right.
First off, check your contract! If drip edge was included, they are obligated to install it. Don't let them brush this off! If it wasn’t in your contract, unfortunately, you might be out of luck. But definitely push them to do the right thing if it was agreed upon.
Your roofing company might have a point about the fascia needing attention, especially if it's not aligned correctly. If the fascia is rotting or if there’s old damage, it could complicate the job. Sometimes, it could mean replacing more than you thought, like rafter tails. Make sure they communicate exactly what they need to fix and why.
That's a valid concern. If they need to replace parts because of rot, that's something they should inform you about upfront.

Totally agree! They should be responsible for making it right.
