Hey everyone! I have an unexpected avocado plant that sprouted from a seed around my compost heap. It's growing pretty well, currently about 18 inches tall. Since the weather is getting colder and there's less sunlight now, I'm wondering if it can survive outdoors. Should I try to dig it up and bring it inside for the winter? I live in the south. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I've had some luck growing avocados indoors too! They can really surprise you with how much they grow.
In some places, like London, avocado trees can actually survive outside. If you’re okay with where it’s growing, you might just let it be. Just keep in mind that this is a young seedling, so I'd recommend potting it up to bring inside for the winter and then planting it outside later.
If you want to save your avocado plant, it's best to transplant it into a pot with some good potting soil and bring it indoors before the frost hits. They don't handle cold weather very well, so getting it inside ASAP is a good move!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll dig it up soon and hope it can handle the transfer.
We’ve got a few avocado trees in our home, and they’ve gotten really tall! Just remember to keep an eye on the space they need as they grow.

Totally agree! Let it acclimate indoors for a while before planting it out for the long term.
