What Should I Do With My Brand New A/C Unit Showing an E1 Error?

I recently bought an 8,000 BTU air conditioner from Amazon for around $280. Unfortunately, when I set it up and turned it on, I immediately encountered an **E1 error** indicating an **indoor ambient temperature sensor failure**. After some back and forth with the seller, they generously provided me with a **full refund** and let me keep the unit. Now I've bought a new, working A/C, and this brand new unit (which I've only plugged in once to check the error) is just gathering dust in the original box. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do with it. Can the **E1 error** be fixed? Is this a common issue with portable A/Cs? Should I try to repair and resell it, or sell it as-is at a discount to someone who knows how to fix it? I'm eager to make some cash if possible, but mainly I want it out of my apartment!

To sell it easily, just put it out on the curb with a 'for sale' sign. Trust me, it'll be gone in no time! People love free stuff or cheap bargains, especially if they think they can fix it easily.

Right? Even if you leave it overnight, someone might just take it without you even needing to advertise it!

For a fix, if you have some tech skills, check if the sensor is properly connected. You might need to order a replacement if it's a bad sensor. If you're not comfortable with that, just sell it as-is! Someone else might want to fix it.

If you're keen on dealing with it, I'd say it's most likely a loose connection causing that E1 error. You could pop it open and check the sensor connections—just be cautious of any capacitors! Since you got the unit for free, it might be worth the risk to see if you can fix it yourself.

Totally agree! Also, if you do repair it, at least you might be able to sell it for a decent price if you fix the error.
