Hey everyone! I recently moved into a new house and found this circular mulch bed in my yard, close to the driveway and street. Initially, I didn't mind it too much; my daughter even uses it as a fairy garden. However, I've spotted something strange twice now—feces in the mulch! Once I found a hole with mulch scattered on my driveway, and now there's just feces lying around. It's definitely larger than any rabbits around here. To top it off, my lawn service makes it look worse by covering it with dead grass clippings. I'm considering removing the mulch bed entirely or replacing it with rocks. Any thoughts on how to deal with this dead mulch situation?

If you're looking to get rid of that mulch, you should bag it up and have your trash company take it. They usually provide yard waste bags that can be picked up on trash day. Just check with your local service. Alternatively, some people, like my neighbor, just toss it into their regular trash can each week. After that, you can clean up the area and maybe even reseed. Simple fix!
Honestly, you should definitely talk to your lawn service about leaving dead grass on that bed; it’s not okay. As for what to do with the mulch, I advise against replacing it with rocks. They’re a pain to remove later! Instead, why not plant some flowers or maybe even a decorative tree? A weeping Japanese maple could be really nice, as long as it doesn't block the view for pulling out onto the street. That could bring some life to that spot!

Definitely! Just make sure the tree is not too big to obstruct your view when you're pulling out. It could turn that bare area into a beautiful focal point.
