Hey everyone! I'm diving into woodworking and I'm looking for suggestions on my first project. I've got some tools like a drill, a jigsaw, and a sander, but I'm not quite sure what to tackle first. I'm hoping for something simple yet practical—maybe a small table, shelf, or a basic box. Any beginner-friendly project ideas? Also, I'd appreciate any tips on the best type of wood to use and common pitfalls to avoid. Thanks a lot for your help!

A workbench would be fantastic as your first project. It’s super useful and gives you a solid surface to work on for all your future projects. Look for pine at your local hardware store to keep it budget-friendly. Steve Ramsey has a great video about buying wood that you might find helpful!
I think a box is a solid choice. It's simple and you can build it to any size you want. After that, maybe try a basic bookshelf. As you get more comfortable, you can experiment with different joinery techniques to upgrade your skills!
How about starting with a birdhouse? It's a fun and straightforward project that can give you great practice. Plus, you'll get to enjoy watching birds come to it once you finish!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check out Steve Ramsey's video.
