What Should I Plant in My Extra Mulched Row?

I've got an extra black plastic mulched row measuring about 45 feet long and 3.5 feet wide after covering a weedy area with biofilm. I've already planted a good amount of squash, zucchini, melons, peppers, tomatoes, beans, and even potatoes, plus some tomatillos (eggplant is a definite no for me!). I'm looking for suggestions on what to plant in this extra space that can be direct-seeded and grow well in this humid climate. I'm particularly interested in vegetables or annual flowers that are resilient enough to thrive with the heat and won't get overwhelmed by weeds. Any recommendations?

You might want to consider planting some herbs! Mediterranean types like thyme, rosemary, and oregano would thrive in that space. Strawberries could have been a great choice too, but they needed to go in earlier this season.

How about pumpkins? They're a blast to grow and perfect for the fall! Watching them develop is such a cool experience. Plus, you'll have plenty of time before the frost hits.

Absolutely! I have a few squash types growing in my garden, and it’s turning into an obsession. Pumpkins really are fun to see grow!

If you’re looking for quick growth, maybe try some radishes or other fast-growing crops. They could handle the conditions in that row pretty well.
