What Size Blum Undermount Slides Do I Need for My Cabinet?

Hey everyone! I'm new to building drawers and I could use a hand in figuring out the right size Blum Undermount slides for my project. I have a cabinet that's 19-7/8" deep. This depth is a bit unusual since I made a slight mistake while grooving the sides for the back panel, resulting in it being off by an 1/8". To clarify, here are the specs: the carcass depth is 19-7/8", the faceframe thickness is 3/4", and the drawer sides will be 1/2" thick. I want the drawer fronts to be flush with the faceframe and I'll be making the boxes from 1/2" pine, adding a 3/4" Ash front, totaling a thickness of 1-1/4" for the front. Would 18" Blum Undermount slides work for me, or should I go with 15" instead? Thanks!

Assuming you're using Movento slides, the setback for a 763H with the depth adjustment is your drawer front plus the thickness minus 3/8”. So, if your drawer sides are 1/2" and the Ash front is 3/4", the calculation works out to 7/8". Just remember, the minimum cabinet depth needed is the runner length plus the setback plus a 1/4". For an 18" runner, that totals to 19-1/8". So you're good to go with 18" slides! But I'd suggest buying one and testing it to be absolutely sure; it’s always better to check!

Glad to hear the math works out! Testing one first sounds like a smart move.

For Blum Undermounts, you'll need to have about an inch of clearance at the back of your cabinet. Given your cabinet depth of 19-7/8", it seems like you might be pushing it for the 18" slides. You also want 1/2" clearance from the bottom of the drawer to the bottom of the sides for the mechanism to work properly. I’d recommend going with the 15" slides instead just to be safe, especially since you mentioned you have the clearance planned beneath the drawer. The installation jig is also a worthy investment if you're planning to do more of these!

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ll definitely consider those 15” slides for the clearance. Appreciate the tips!
