What Size Ceiling Fans Should I Use for Different Bedroom Sizes?

Hi everyone! I just moved into a new home that has ceiling fan plates in the bedrooms but no actual fans installed. Here's the scoop: the rooms are 9x12 (108 SF), 10.5x12 (125 SF), and 13x13 (169 SF). We have a ceiling fan in the living room that we really like, and I found the same fan model online, which is 44 inches and is the smallest size available on Amazon. I've read that the two smaller bedrooms should have fans sized between 36-42 inches, while the larger one should use fans sized 44-50 inches. So my question is, are those size recommendations strict, or can I just go ahead and install the same 44-inch fan in all three bedrooms?

Yeah, it could depend on clearance and if there are any can lights that might get in the way in the smaller rooms. But honestly, those guidelines are mainly to help with airflow. If you run it slower, a 44-inch fan should still work well, even in the smaller spaces.

Good point about weight and proper mounting! You’ll want to ensure the mounts can handle whatever fan you choose, especially if they’re smaller fans. Since your home is newer, you should be good, but it’s always best to double-check that the mounting is secure!

Thanks for the tip! I assumed since it's a new build, the weight wouldn't be a problem. How can I check if the mounting is good?

I’ve got to say, 52 inches was suggested to me for a room about the same size as your middle one. Seems like a sweet spot for those dimensions!

Was that recommendation from a pro or just a DIY suggestion?
