What Small Projects Can I Start with My New Bandsaw?

I've just received a 9" Ryobi bandsaw as a gift, and while it seems to work perfectly, I'm not very familiar with its capabilities or what kind of projects I should tackle to get better at using it. Any tips or project ideas would be much appreciated!

I mainly use my bandsaw for quick cuts on small pieces or flat stock. It's super convenient and safer than a table saw since there's less risk of kickback as long as the workpiece is flat on the table. Just be cautious with round materials without a jig, since they can spin on you. These smaller bandsaws are somewhat limited for resawing, but they definitely excel in other areas!

Thanks! What's considered a 'large size' for bandsaws?

Bandsaw boxes are a fantastic starting point! They're unique to bandsaw use and really fun to create. Just make sure you support your workpiece down to the table when cutting, as loose pieces can flip toward the blade. It's definitely a learning experience!

Thanks for the tip! I'll be careful with the support while making them.

You can do so much with a bandsaw! Definitely check out some YouTube videos to get a feel for how to set it up - adjusting the guides for each blade is key. Start with various small projects that let you practice different cuts; focus on mastering the technique rather than just finishing something. And yes, bandsaw boxes are a great beginner project!
