I'm looking for recommendations for small trees suitable for a south-facing garden in the UK. Ideally, these trees should offer some privacy and support local wildlife without growing too large or causing problems with their roots near my house foundations. The available space is about 7m x 9m. Any suggestions?

You might want to consider planting Arbutus unedo or Amelanchier. Both are great for smaller spaces and attract local wildlife!
Hawthorn is another option, but just a heads-up, it can have a high demand for ground water and might cause subsidence issues, so it might not be the best fit for your situation.

Thanks for the warning! I’ll be more cautious about that.
