I'm diving into my vegetable gardening adventure this year with a raised bed! I've got Kellogg's organic raised bed soil, and I'm planning to grow tomatoes, bush beans, some herbs, flowers, and carrots. I also picked up Dr. Earth's organic dry fertilizer, but I haven't used it yet. I'm wondering, do you have any recommendations for amendments to enhance this soil right out of the bag?

Honestly, I find that Kellogg's isn't the best option out there. It feels more like the 'saltine crackers' of soils. If you can get your hands on some free dirt, that might actually outperform what you've bought. Personally, I add chicken manure regularly and throw in some worm castings too if I want an extra boost.
I used to go for Kellogg's raised bed mix, but last year, I ended up with bags that were just full of wood chips! The color was kind of off too, like a bright orange. I tried using it in containers but nothing really grew. I recommend using a mix of manure and green compost instead; it's pretty affordable and really works wonders! Just sprinkle it on top of your soil each season.
