I'm helping my father-in-law find a new strimmer. His old JCB has served him well for 20 years, but the cord has snapped and it's tough to repair. I suggested he consider going electric, but he's not convinced that they have enough power. He primarily needs it for maintaining his 20ft lawn and working at his allotment. We're hoping to keep the budget around £150. Any recommendations?

I own a Milwaukee strimmer and love it! It's perfect for my allotment — really quiet and has as much power as my old petrol one. Definitely recommend it if he's considering going electric!
Stihl's battery range is fantastic! You can use the same batteries for their mowers and hedge trimmers, too. I prefer the AP system, but they have more affordable options!
For regular maintenance, I think a cordless strimmer would be a great option, especially one with at least 36 volts. Brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, and Echo are solid choices. Look for models that come with 1 or preferably 2 4amp batteries. Stihl even has spring deals sometimes! Power won’t be a big issue for trimming, but make sure to have enough battery life for the tasks at hand. If you stick to a routine of charging the batteries and using them properly, he should have no problem maintaining his lawn and allotment. Good luck!
Have you thought about a Niwaki hand scythe? It's low maintenance and way better for the environment without all that plastic. Might be a good alternative if he's open to trying something different.

Just a heads up, though, with a £150 budget, you might be looking at more budget-friendly brands like Black and Decker.
