What Thickness and Material Should I Use for My Outfeed Table?

Hey everyone! I just snagged the Rockler Rock-Steady Folding Table Saw Outfeed Kit for my SawStop PCS but I'm still figuring out what to make the table surface from. The instructions say I need at least 3/4" thickness, but I'm wondering if I should go thicker, especially since I want to extend my miter slots onto the outfeed table. Would 3/4" work, or should I double it up or perhaps use a combination of 3/4" and 1/2"? Also, is MDF a good choice for the surface? I think it's smoother than plywood, but I'm considering adding a formica top too. I'd love to hear what you all have done, especially those of you who have this kit! Any tips or things you wish you had done differently? Thanks!

I'm planning to use 3/4-inch MDF with a laminated top and stick 1/4-inch plywood underneath for extra support. My shop is pretty cramped, and things get bumped around, so I find this combo works great. I’ve done a similar setup for my router table, and I love the smooth laminate surface along with the extra strength from the plywood. Plus, attaching the laminate is easy!

Just to clarify, are you layering it like this: laminate, MDF, then plywood? Or is it the other way around? Just trying to understand your setup, thanks!
