What to Do About Holes Drilled in My Wall Header?

Asked By CuriousCat88 On

I have an issue where an electrician drilled two holes through the wall's top plate, and one of them is really close to the edge. I'm not worried too much, but I'd like to know the best way to fix this. I was considering using Simpson structural straps along the face next to the crown molding to reinforce it. What do you all think? Here's a not-so-great picture for reference: https://imgur.com/a/HPmJ6B7

It sounds like the holes were drilled through the top plate, which isn't really a big deal. This is pretty common in many homes, so I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

I was worried it might be problematic, but if you say it's common, maybe I should just let it be.

Honestly, that's just how wiring is done in homes. If you want to seal it up, you could use some spray foam to fill the holes and reduce airflow to the attic. After that, you can cover it back up without issues.
