What to Do After a Tree Falls on Neighbors’ Yards?

Hey everyone! I recently bought a house, and we just had a huge tree fall into both of our neighbors' yards. It caused some minor damage on three properties, plus it took down some power lines. While it doesn't seem like there's an active fire hazard, I'm a bit uneasy since the power lines look damaged. I reported this to the city through a non-emergency channel, but no one was available to help since it's the weekend. I'm letting my insurance know, but I'm not sure if I should contact the fire department about this or if it's just a non-emergency. I've never dealt with something like this before and wasn't expecting the tree to fall, so any advice or personal experiences would really help. Thanks!

Before you reach out to your insurance, it might be a good idea to check the costs for tree removal and see what your coverage actually includes. Sometimes, even if there's damage, they won't cover costs unless the tree hits a covered structure. Plus, making a claim can increase your rates, so keep that in mind!

Got it! I’ll look into the removal costs first. Thanks for the heads-up!

Definitely call your utility company right away! They need to know about the downed power lines. Safety is a priority here, so don’t hesitate to let them come assess the situation.

Thanks for the tip! I've reached out to the utility company, but they've said it’s not a priority, which is concerning.

Make sure you stay on top of this! Call your utility company again if you need to. They should assess the damage and remove any immediate dangers as soon as possible. Don't wait—it’s important to take care of this quickly!
