What to Do When a Drywall Hole Is Too Big for an Anchor?

Hey everyone! I was trying to mount a heavy mirror on my drywall, but my anchor snapped, leaving me with a hole that's about 1/2 inch thick. I'm wondering if there are any specific anchors that can work with such a large hole, or if there's a way to fix it so I can install a new anchor in the same spot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The best way to handle this is to patch the hole first. You can use a drywall repair patch or some joint compound to fill it in. Once it’s dried and solid, you could drill a smaller hole and go for a heavy-duty anchor like a toggle bolt or a molly bolt. For even better support, try to hit a wall stud if you can!

You might want to consider using a toggle bolt! Since those have a large wing nut, they can work with holes that size. Just make sure to follow the instructions, and you should be good to go!
