I'm facing a bit of a dilemma while staining my staircase. The painter is applying two coats, and each coat takes about 24 hours to dry. After those two days of work, we can't use the stairs for 3 to 4 days. The bathroom is on the second floor, so I'm wondering if we should just crash on the couch for a couple of days, or would it be smarter to book a hotel for showers and comfort? Any suggestions?

Going with a hotel sounds like the best option here. You definitely need to prioritize having a bathroom and not deal with the fumes from the stain. It’ll save you the hassle of trying to navigate stairs for a few days too.
You could consider doing every other stair. Once those dry, you can tackle the rest. But honestly, if you can swing it, a hotel stay might be the safest and most comfortable route.
I second the hotel idea! The smell of fresh wood stain can be pretty overwhelming, and you don’t want to be stuck trying to live with that for days. Plus, you'll have access to a clean bathroom!
