Hey everyone! I'm considering diving into some small woodworking projects just for fun. While I have a basic understanding of woodworking, I'm really eager to practice intricate joinery techniques. The catch is that I can't use power tools where I live. Can anyone recommend specific tools I should get, or good books that might help with hand tool woodworking? Thanks!

You'll want a solid workbench with a good vise, a dovetail saw, a Japanese pull saw, a #4 bench plane, and some mortising chisels to start off. General-purpose chisels, a brace and bits, a wooden mallet, a marking gauge, and lots of sandpaper are also great additions. You don't even need books; there are tons of free hand-tool woodworking videos on YouTube that cover traditional joinery techniques pretty well!

Thanks! I’m curious, though, what’s the difference in use cases between a dovetail saw and a Japanese pull saw?
