What tools do I need to build a sturdy cat enclosure?

I'm looking to build a simple yet durable outdoor enclosure for my cats, around 20 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 8 feet high. The only tools I currently have are a 7 1/4" circular saw, an impact driver, a random orbital sander, a jigsaw, and some typical hand tools that are more mechanical than woodworking. I also have a speed square. Besides this project, I might need to create some small shelves and I'd like to screen in my small front porch as well. What other tools should I consider getting for this project?

You've got a solid start with what you have! For building an enclosure, you can definitely get by with your circular saw, speed square, tape measure, hammer, and a carpenter's pencil. If you're planning to build shelves, a stud finder or a strong magnet could help you find wall studs easily. But for just a simple cat house, you're already good to go! Also, a countersink bit is a simple addition that helps screws fit nicely, but really, you don't need to overthink it.

Your current tools are probably enough for this project. But if you want to make life a bit easier, consider getting some tin snips for cutting the cage material and maybe an angle grinder if you're working with thicker gauge materials. A miter saw could also be helpful, although the circular saw can handle it with a bit more effort. Just keep it simple and you'll be alright!

Great point! Sometimes simpler really is better. Thanks for the advice!

Yep, you’ve got what you need for a basic cat enclosure! While your tools are sufficient, if you're considering more options or if you feel adventurous, you could add a table saw, a planer, or a jointer to your collection. But honestly, for what you're building, a hammer and a handsaw could also do the trick!
