What Tools Do I Need to Build an Awning Over My Garage?

I'm planning to build an awning over my garage entry door to protect it from harsh sunlight and rain. The garage is made of brick, so I want to make sure I have the right tools for drilling and securing it properly. I found a hammer drill and some bits online, but I'm not sure if that's the best choice. I also have a tube of Big Stretch caulk and some heavy-duty hollow wall anchors. What tools do you recommend for this project?

The main focus should be on the awning's design and secure installation. You want to make sure it can handle winds of 50-70 mph without risking damage, especially if you're in a snowy area. Just ensure that it’s installed properly to avoid any issues later!

I picked out an awning that I think will work well—it's adjustable for steepness, so I can adapt it for high winds if needed. I'm also planning to use Big Stretch caulk to secure everything.

Honestly, a hammer drill might be a bit too much for this project. A cordless drill with a hammer function would work just fine, plus it's more versatile for other tasks. Your bits should be okay too. I also suggest using some silicone with your anchors for extra moisture protection—it's not a must, but it'll help prevent corrosion over time!

Thanks for the tip! I have some Big Stretch for caulking; it's good for temperature changes, right? I also added some GE silicone to my list.
